Text Box: There are over 57+ Hebrew and Greek words that have to do with the word “time.” From harvest time to times of trouble, the word time carries with it a lot of different experiences from joy to sorrow, from fullness to lack, time carries with it an assignment and has a purpose,
even when it is Chronos (kronos) time, which means a designation of a period of time and space, like day to day, hour to hour, week to week, or moment to moment. It carries the chronological order of time as we are in it and counts down each moment. This way we can designate what measurement of time we are in. So when we read Psalm 23 and say “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. . . .the word “days” has to do with (chronos) time.
I want to share with you two other definitions that I believe are essential to this month of May. The next definition is Kairos (kyros) which means an appointed time, crucial time, a very decisive moment in time. Kairos time doesn’t mean that during the time that it is spoken, that it will necessarily happen in that very moment.
A good example of kairos time is when Abraham met the three men at the tent door and he was told that at the time appointed, according to the time of life, Sarah would bear a child. (Genesis 18:14) From the moment that the word was spoken, everything was set in order (time) for it to come to pass. And by the time of life, she brought forth the child.
(There is so much I could share with you from the words and covenant that God established with Abraham that prepared everything for him to receive the blessings of God on his life.) It was significant when God told Abraham to walk before Him and be thou perfect. Many times we think that we aren’t required to do anything in order to receive the promises of God. But Abraham had a covenant with God. God Text Box: begin to speak to him: about multiplying him, making him fruitful, making nations of Him, and that Kings would come out of him. Then at the appointed time God gave him a son but he was not just a father to Isaac, because God ordained him to be a father of nations.
Kairos time is the strategy of God when something can and must be done. It is a window/door/access/entryway of opportunity that God has established. It’s a season where things are possible. The important thing is to continue to move forward in the things of God, so that we are in step with His timing. The only way that we can do that is by being in His presence and allowing our lives to line up with His Word.
Understand, I am not speaking religiously. We will all make mistakes, but just like Abraham we must go back and reestablish our covenant connection so we can walk in step with God’s will, purpose, and plan. When I say that we must walk in accordance to His word—I feel that there is too many free passes given out under the covering of grace without responsibility and accountability for our actions, but that is another teaching.
Kairos also means the seizing of time. When the time and opportunity presents itself, and we know that God has provided that time, we must step out and believe God without fear and intimidation. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous, but He first said, “Fear not”. Fear can keep us from seizing the access in our lives that God has opened up for us. God told Abraham to walk over the length and the depth of the land that He had given to Him. Abraham’s walking over that land was his seizing the way that God had made for him. The location, the size of the land, was up to Abraham. God said that every place Text Box: his foot was to tread, he had given to him. But Abraham had to get up and seize the opportunity that God had set for him. David, before going to battle, inquired of the Lord. The Lord would let him know whether he was to fight. There is a time that we pray and petition God and a time when God says to us, “Go up.”
The last definition I want to talk about is pleroma (plero’o) time which deals with the fullness of time. When the day of Pentecost was fully come…. is a good example this time. However, we can pray fervently for a thing to happen now, but if it is in this context it will not take place until the fullness of time comes. But when it does, you will see with it fullness of joy, provision, unity with others, and a oneness with God. You will experience fullness in purpose, fullness in giving of one’s self and fullness in receiving what God has for you.
Don’t think that praying for something to come forth in its fullness is in vain. But on the contrary, the prayer prepares us and gives us grace and patience to wait on God and to not give up, but to press on because that time is coming. So what does this have to do with the word of the Lord this month?
I believe that we have entered a time where God is bringing His precious promises to pass. It’s a time where we must seize the time and to press on in our relationship with Him. It’s a time where we must be diligent and obedient to complete everything that the Lord has been talking us about doing.
